A coral reef some six miles long, Caroline Island actually consists of 22 islets strung along the reef. The islets are lushly overgrown with coconut palms, pandanus and other coral-reef vegetation. Once inhabited by Polynesians, the island has archaeological sites and an indescribably blue interior lagoon, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or looking for the vibrant fish and small crustaceans that inhabit this area.
