Cosmoledo is a large atoll in the Aldabra group. With more than 20 islands and islets making up the area, Cosmoledo has been used extensively over the years for guano exploitation, harvesting local resources, and fishing. Since they were abandoned in 1992, the islands have been recovering and with the help of conservation organizations, it has become an Important Bird Area. Cosmoledo is now the home of the Indian Ocean's largest colony of Red-footed Boobies, and is also home to Sooty Terns, Black-naped Terns, Crested Terns, and Red-tailed Tropicbirds.
