Crinan is best known as the location of the Crinan Canal. Opened in 1801, this canal formed a vital link in Scotland's transport system, as it provided a navigable route between the Clyde and the Inner Hebrides. Today, however, it is mostly used by pleasure craft, and is enjoyed as a beautiful relic set in wonderful scenery.
