Dark Island is located in the lower eastern Thousand Islands region on the St. Lawrence Seaway. The island itself sits only a few yards south of the Canadian-United States border that runs along the river, and because of its proximity to Canada, it was used for bootlegging during prohibition in the United States. The island is home to the historic Singer Castle, a large stone structure that was constructed in 1905 and modeled after Scottish architecture. Castle tours are available; or, for those more interested in outdoor activities, the south side of the island is known for being a good spot for sport fishing of Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike.
