Eriskay is an idyllic island in the Outer Hebrides with blue seas and white beaches. It attracts many cyclists and hikers who enjoy its numerous mountain paths and tracks. In 1941, the SS Politician struck rocks just off the north shore of the island, spilling its cargo of 264,000 bottles of scotch whiskey. This incident was the inspiration for the movie Whiskey Galore.
