Funafuti, Tuvalu

For discounted cruises that visit Funafuti, Tuvalu, click .

As the capital of one of the world’s smallest and remote independent nations, Funafuti is the only port of entry into this unspoiled spot. Made up of 33 islands, this atoll is the designated administrative center of the political entity, with government buildings located in the village of Vaiaku. Central lagoons, organic coral reefs, and the deep blue waters of the Pacific, decorate this stretch of land that has just recently developed into a busy town within the last decade. Stroll the Funafuti Fusi market, or visit the most prominent building on the atoll, the Church of Tuvalu. A popular tourist interest is the remains of the American aircraft that crashed on Funafuti during World War II, after the U.S. used the airstrip to defend the Gilbert Islands. This secluded cluster of islands provides a unique look into the natural beauty of the Pacific Islands.
