Situated on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, Holland is best known for its Dutch heritage. Traditional Dutch architecture can be found downtown and throughout the city, and various Dutch-themed attractions, such as the Tulip Time Festival in May, attract thousands of tourists annually. Holland's award-winning downtown includes eight blocks of more than 100 shops, galleries and restaurants housed in Victorian buildings. Underground hot-water pipes heat the sidewalks, making shopping a pleasant experience even during the winter.
