Kangerlussuaq is Greenland's most important transport hub. Kangerlussuaq, also known as Sonder Stroemfiord, was an American airbase until September 1992. The Kangerlussuaq area is also home to Greenland's most diverse land-based wildlife, such as muskoxen, caribou and gyrfalcons). It is also a great place to see some of the most power full northern lights during the winter. The combination of these two factors has made Kangerlussauq a significant tourist center for most of the year.
