Launceston is the third-oldest city in Australia, with comfortable year-round temperatures and great natural attractions. The Cataract Gorge is a 10-minute walk from town and surrounded by wild peacocks and pleasant park grounds. A chairlift flies high over it all, and many trails wind through the park. A narrow suspension bridge leads to historic Duck Reach Power Station, which was swept away in the 1929 Launceston floods.
