Natchitoches is the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase Territory and proudly displays its heritage in its unique Creole architecture. Walk along the Cane River that snakes through the center of the city and visit the Kate Chopin Home and the Magnolia and Beau Fort Plantations. Visit in December for the famous Christmas Festival of Lights, with fabulous lighting displays.
