The Ngorongoro Conservation Area covers more than 800 square miles and encompasses the volcanic area around the Ngorongoro Crater. Travelers to the region may view the active volcano of Ol Doinyo Lengai and the Olduvai Gorge, a renowned site of anthropological discovery. The Crater itself is the largest unbroken caldera in the world. Its floor, covering 100 square miles, supports a huge diversity of African animals, both predator and prey.
