Niebla is a small village on the Rio Valdivia, where Chile's Corral Bay meets the Pacific Ocean. A beach resort today, in 1671 it was a fortress built to defend the town of Valdivia from pirates and corsairs. Niebla is known for its lively markets, the ruined colonial fortress declared a National Monument in 1950, and a museum dedicated to its history.
