Savoonga is a village located on the St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea. The villagers have a subsistence style of living based on walrus and whale hunting, and those two animals in addition to reindeer and seal make up a large portion of the people's diet. Visitors to the island will find that Savoonga is a good mix of past and present as the Yup'ik people have adapted over the years despite their isolation.
