Located several miles south of the North Cape, Skarsvag has the distinction of being the northernmost fishing village in the world. The cod caught here is considered to make the world’s best salted fish. The town is home to the North Cape Christmas and Winter House, a shop filled with handmade Christmas gifts and crafts. It is open year-round and introduces guests to many Norwegian Christmas traditions. Summertime visitors to Skarvag will have the opportunity to visit the town’s fishing center, where they will meet a variety of sea life, including live fish and king crab. There is also a gallery and souvenir shop. In addition, Skarsvag offers a multitude of boating and fishing opportunities, and less than an hour’s walk away is the mountain formation Kirkeporten, which is believed to have been a Sami sacrificial site. Hikers making it to the top will be rewarded with amazing views of the Cape.
