There are two Samoas -- American Samoa is a U.S. territory and Western Samoa is a constitutional monarchy. Each has its own capital, language and currency. The best shore excursions in American Samoa are island tours aboard an open-air jitney. The highlight in Western Samoa is a climb to the top of Mount Vaea (where Robert Louis Stevenson is buried) or attending a Samoan dance performance.
