Stresa lies on the shores of Lake Maggiore. This small town has about 5,000 residents and is a popular retreat for Europe's aristocrats. Ernest Hemingway set part of Farewell to Arms here in the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees. Popular sights include the Villa Ducale, Villa Dell'Orto and Villa Pallavicino.
