Located in the Bering Sea east of the Kamachatka Peninsula, the Commander Islands are a destination full of cultural history. During the 1800s, the people of the Aleutian Islands were relocated to the previously uninhabited Commander Islands. This move was made to expand the Russian fur trade and stake their claim over the islands. Throughout most of the year, the islands are typically covered in a light fog, but the surrounding landscape is stunning when visited during a warm spell. Though there are few mammal sightings, many varieties of sea bird make their home here, providing visitors with a perfect opportunity for bird watching.
