Moskito Island is located off the coast of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. It was acquired in 2007 by Richard Branson who also owns nearby Necker Island, home to the Branson Estate. The island is intended to be ecologically friendly with plans to conserve the surrounding terrestrial and marine bioresources. Flamingoes have been moved from Necker Island to populate Moskito, and a sanctuary for endangered ring-tailed lemurs has been put in place. It can also be noted that, while there is some discrepancy about the origin of the island's name, many believe it came from the Moskito Indians who were known to travel the region centuries ago. Travelers will find many pleasing views and places to relax or explore with each visit to the island.
