Located just 60 miles north of New York City, Newburgh hugs the western side of the Hudson River. This densely settled city is home to Mount Saint Mary's College and contains an elevated bluff that offers spectacular views of the Hudson Highlands to the south and Mount Beacon to the east. It was home to the first Edison power plant and was therefore the first American city to be electrified and use streetlights. Some popular sites are Karpele's Manuscript Museum and Downing Park, which was created by New York City's famous Central Park designers, Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmstead.
