Two main sites will attract visitors to Vilanjam. Nearby Kottur is home to an Elephant Rehabilitation Center, where caretakers look after small groups of sick, injured or orphaned elephants. The Center is near the Neyyar Dam reservoir, a picturesque forested site also frequented by local wildlife. Meanwhile, the Palace of Padmanabhapuram is India's largest wooden mansion complete with its own performance hall. Ornate sculptures and carvings fill the palatial grounds that once accommodated as many as 2,000 diners for a single meal.
