Before I get into a recap of our recent Mardi Gras Singles sailing, I would like to share an update with you for solo travelers cruising on Norwegian Cruise Line. In January 2024, Norwegian rolled out solo cabins, which are essentially full-sized staterooms offered at a reduced single supplement. Based on inventory, a solo cabin comes as an inside, oceanview or balcony. On February 11, our Vacations to Go Singles boarded the beautiful Norwegian Breakaway in New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras in the Caribbean. We visited Cozumel, Roatan, Harvest Caye and Costa Maya.
After boarding the ship and completing our group check-in, we headed straight to O'Sheehan's to watch the Super Bowl on the big screen! Have you ever experienced a Super Bowl party at sea? Diane D. from Monroe Township, NJ and Janet K. from West Orange, NJ kicked off the cocktail party that night in spirit when they arrived decked out in referee uniforms and passed out miniature footballs.
We spent the following sea day hanging out by the pool, playing icebreaker games and doing a team scavenger hunt! That afternoon, Paula B. from Albuquerque, NM got a group together to go into the Ice Bar. Did you know that the Skyy Vodka Ice Bar features New York-inspired drinks and is kept at a chilling 17 degrees Fahrenheit? For the $20 entry, you get 2 drinks and a parka to keep you warm!
In Cozumel, we had a relaxing day at Playa Mia beach paired with delicious Mexican chocolate and tequila. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, Issac W. from Lakeview, OH and Diane D. from Monroe Township, NJ started a beach dance party! The dancing continued into the night at our Mardi Gras-themed cocktail party. Kris K. from Mount Hope, ON really stole the show when he arrived decked out in a sequin suit.
Our private group excursion in Roatan was a three-stop snorkeling adventure that started at a coral reef viewing tropical fish. Then, we headed to Starfish Century where Darlene H. from Albion, NY got to hold a bright red starfish. Finally, we ended at a shipwreck! Anne H. from Bonney Lake, WA said she loved every destination, but the shipwreck was by far her favorite. Back ashore, Genevive M. from Diamondhead, MS got to hold a sloth!
After docking in Harvest Caye, singles spent the day soaking up the sun by the pool bar and an iguana even stepped in to be our bartender. We enjoyed a delicious local lunch at Land Shark Bar & Grill. Back on board, the whole ship was themed for Mo-Town Night! Before the sailing, Shelly M. from Flower Mound, TX posted to Facebook to make sure everyone brought their dancing shoes!
At our final stop in Costa Maya, the group spent the morning kayaking the seven-color lagoon and trying different tacos before heading back to shop at the port. Once back on board, our singles took over Shaker's Bar for the glow party where we enjoyed delicious chocolate martinis and live music. Alex M. from Wilmington, DW was quick to hop on the stage and bust out his dance moves!
