This formerly walled city of the Kingdom of Wu sits at the very center of the Yangtze's long, navigable course to the sea. Its Hubei Province Museum houses artifacts from the first century B.C. as well as mementos of the province's revolutionary history. Visit Sheshan, site of Huangha Lou. Legend holds that a Taoist sage flew away from here on a beautiful yellow crane to become a revered immortal.
