The city of Bangor lies on the western side of the Penobscot River, 20 miles northwest of Penobscot Bay. Bangor is considered the commercial and social center of Northern, Central and Eastern Maine, and was once the lumber capital of the world. The region is known for its beautiful natural scenery, including mountains, coastlines, rivers and lakes.
