Fatu Hiva is the southernmost island of the Marquesas archipelago, formed from two volcanic craters, one having risen within the other. The island features jungle greenery beginning at the water’s edge with narrow ravines, deep gorges and luxuriant valleys. Dried bananas are a specialty of Fatu Hiva, as is the Umu Hei Monoi -- a delightful blend of indigenous herbs. Shop for perfumes, bowls, platters, small canoes and tapa cloth made by local artisans.
