Seven distinct regions make up Northern Territory's vast Kakadu National Park, which is nearly half the size of Switzerland. Explore wetlands in the South Alligator and Yellow Waters areas, waterfalls in the Jabiru, Mary River, and Jim Jim areas, or rock art in Nourlangie and East Alligator. The area is home to thousands of species of plants and animals and has been inhabited for at least 20,000 and possibly as many as 40,000 years by the local Aboriginal people. Kakadu National Park has been listed as a World Heritage site for both cultural and natural value since 1981.
