Yangon is the charming, tree-filled capital city located in southern Myanmar on the Yangon River. Up on a hilltop is the gold-plated and bejeweled Shwedagon Pagoda, the holiest Buddhist site in the country, with smaller pagodas, shrines and statues galore.
