Dear Vacations To Go Singles Customer,
Before I get into our Alaska cruise, I'm happy to report that we now use
the free mobile app
GroupMe on our singles cruises. GroupMe gives
our hosts and guests a simple way to communicate onboard. Updates,
meetup suggestions, group chats and more are now available to each VTG
singles group onboard. This update was made in response to your
recommendation in our recent survey that we improve group and host
communication at sea.
Please note that internet is required to use the GroupMe app. Download
the GroupMe app prior to your cruise at the Apple App Store or Google
Play Store. Instructions for joining our VTG singles GroupMe group on
each cruise will be provided in the Singles Activity Schedule emailed to
you 30 days prior to departure.
On July 26, our group of fun-loving singles boarded the
Celebrity
Edge for the last frontier -- Alaska. We stopped in Ketchikan,
Juneau, Skagway and Victoria on this 7-night adventure.
A sea day at the beginning of the cruise is the perfect way to enjoy
scenic views and participate in our new icebreaker activities. During
our first new icebreaker game, the guests were divided into small groups
to come up with 5 things they had in common. Hilariously,
Sherly
C. from Wilmington, NC and her group really struggled, but
eventually bonded over things they
did not have in common. Later
that afternoon,
Alice R. from Kyle, TX proved she was ready for
some real nature watching when she spotted a cruise duck hiding on the
ship! Hiding "cruise ducks" on the ship is a trend for seasoned sailors.
Nice work, Alice!
In Ketchikan, we boarded a motor coach for the Saxman Native Village
tour. Once there, we learned about the rich history of their totem poles
and sampled salmon on crackers. On our journey into town, we saw salmon
and eagles, but the highlight was a baby bear!
Dee K. from
Pelham, NH snapped pictures as the bear cub headed down to a nearby
creek to catch some fresh fish from the salmon run. We are happy to
report that
Lenis H. from Dallas, TX made it back to the ship in
time after his Ketchikan Pub Crawl. That night we had a Lumber Jack and
Lumber Jane theme party where everyone wore their favorite flannels and
suspenders.
Brian W. from Millsboro, DE took it a step further
with a fake beard and beanie hat.
The next day, we spent the morning cruising through the stunning scenery
of Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. As the ship turned around in the
fjord,
Jeff B. from Morrow, OH took a time-lapse video of the
600-foot glacier.
In Juneau, we boarded our private vessel for whale-watching, which ended
up being our favorite activity. The humpback whales and their offspring
came out in full force to feed and play that afternoon. The naturalist
onboard taught us all about the whale's migration and feeding habits,
plus shared tips on getting the best photos. Pro tip of the day? It's
always best to record video rather than trying to snap pictures of the
whales. This way you are sure to get the full breach and can always go
back and take a screenshot of your video.
Our next excursion was Skagway City and White Pass Summit tour and while
the weather was foggy, our tour guide kept everyone enriched and
entertained with stories of the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897. We traveled
by motor coach through Skagway's historic district before heading up the
Klondike Highway 3,292 feet to the summit of the White Pass mountain
top. As we made our way back down the mountain, we stopped by a small
waterfall and were given the opportunity to sample fresh crisp water
right from the source.
Gerard D. from Fords, NJ took the
opportunity to take a chilly bird bath in the cool waters.
Our last sea day must have been a welcomed break for
Jessica H.
from Somerville, MA who booked
two excursions in every port.
There was no time for rest for
Lisa S. from Farmington, MO or
Diane T. from Albuquerque, NM who participated in the onboard
archery competition.
Later that evening,
Marlene B. from Black Diamond, WA really
shined in her Elvis-inspired gold jacket and gold tinsel wig for our
Gold Rush party. Everyone looked worth their weight in the precious
metal but
Mike S. from Boerne, TX stole the show as he arrived
dressed as a gold miner.
