A district of the state of Terengganu, Malaysia, Kemaman is located on the coast of the South China Sea. As the deepest port in the country, it serves as the main center for it's most valuable export that has given the state new wealth, liquefied petroleum gas. Kemaman's beaches used to be the home to the now extinct green sea turtle and painted terrapins and as an attempt to prevent further endangerment, the state government has created the Ma'Daerah Turtle Sanctuary as a safe nesting ground for turtles.
