Matsue, Japan

To see discounted cruises that visit or depart from this port, use the Find a Bargain box on the left.

Matsue is a historic castle town in Shimane Prefecture, gracefully set between Lake Shinji and the Sea of Japan. Matsue Castle, one of Japan's few remaining original feudal era castles built by samurai rulers in the early 1600s, rises above wide moats and cherry trees that bloom spectacularly in spring. Visitors can cruise the canals by traditional boat, explore the celebrated gardens of the Adachi Museum of Art, and visit nearby Izumo Taisha, one of Japan's oldest and most important Shinto shrines. Tea culture thrives here, reflected in serene tea houses and beautifully crafted seasonal wagashi sweets. Matsue offers a refined blend of history, nature, and timeless Japanese tradition.
