Phnom Penh is the capital and most populous city in Cambodia. It is the epicenter of the nation's economic, industrial and cultural growth. The city holds the National Museum, the country's leading historical and archaeological museum. In April, Phnom Penh celebrates Cambodian New Year. At this time, the city is alive with dancing and music. Later in the year in November, the Water Festival takes place on the Tonle Sap river. The three day holiday features fireworks, colorful boat races, concerts and decadent food. Other popular sites include Wat Phnom which was constructed in 1373, the Royal Palace, the Independence Monument and the Silver Pagoda.
