Ferrol is a maritime city located in Galicia. Once a small fishing port, this town is now a major naval shipbuilding center and historical site. There are plenty of roads connecting Ferrol to other locations by motor and train, so visitors wanting to take a day trip elsewhere will have multiple options. Places to visit in town include the ship-yard and naval base, the square in the city center, and the Castillo de San Felipe found just outside Ferrol. Those who want more from their Galicia beach experience should head to Santiago de Compostela. This destination is an hour south of town, and is a trip that allows travelers a chance to see the elaborately decorated Cathedral and the many plazas and small squares of the old-world town as they make their way down the coast.
