Itea serves as the port from which to visit Delphi. Basking in a setting of unparalleled beauty on the slope of Mount Parnassus, Delphi is perhaps the most famous classical site in Greece. Considered by the ancient Greeks to be the center of the Earth, Delphi was once the site of an oracle of the earth goddess Gaea. Delphi once encompassed a theater and a stadium where the Pythian festival (similar to the Olympics) was held. Four triumphal arches remain today to trumpet the glories of the past. The Sanctuary of the Oracles will be the highlight of any visit.
