Karimunjawa is a series of twenty-seven islands in the Java Sea. The name means literally "a stone's throw away from Java" in Javanese. The area is known for its tranquil beaches and pristine coral reefs, excellent for snorkeling and scuba diving. Popular dive sites include black and organ pipe coral reefs, as well as the wreckage of the Panamanian ship, Indono. Twenty-two of the twenty-seven islands have been classified as a Marine National Park.
