The Turks ruled Kavala for more than six centuries, leaving behind their cultural and architectural influences. Today the city is situated on the later-constructed Via Egnatia, connecting the East with the West. See the aqueduct, built in roman style by Suleiman the Magnificent, the Monastery of St. Sylas, the Baptistery of St. Lydia and the archaeological site of Philippi.
