Found on the west coast of Malaysia, Lumut is a small town in Perak located halfway between Kuala Lumpur and Penang. In the early days, it is said that the beach was covered in moss and seaweed, so the people named it Lumut which means moss in Malay. The town was originally just a small fishing village, but it is now the base for the Royal Malaysian Navy and houses the Boustead Naval Shipyard, the biggest in Malaysia. Lumut is also known for its production of seashell and coral handicrafts. Transportation to and from the various restaurants, hotels, and sites includes bus, car, and ferry rides to different parts of Pangkor Island.
