The coastal city of Niigata is more than a seaside port town known for its wetlands and abundant rivers. Niigata is full of sea-sprayed cliffs, thick forests and gentle cherry blossoms stretching over lakes in the spring. Its hot springs attract travelers from all over the world and over 30,000 people join the Niigata Festival each August to enjoy traditional folk dancing through the city.
