Located on the eastern coast of Ibaraki is Oarai Town. Oarai Sun Beach is a popular shallow beach that hosts many swimmers, surfers, and boaters during the summer months. Visitors can explore the Aqua World Ibaraki Prefectural Oarai Aquarium to see 68,000 aquatic animals of approximately 580 different species. Another popular site is the Oarai Isosazaki Shrine. It is surrounded by Japanese black pines and chinquapin trees and is known as the guardian deity of safe voyages. A museum stands in the precincts of the shrine.
