Okayama is home to Koraku-en, one of Japan's "Three Great Gardens," which survived the bombs in the Second World War and was carefully rebuilt using ancient paintings from the Edo period to replicate the original design. Older converted warehouses in the town now house museums and shops for visitors to enjoy. The Ohara Museum, Japan's first museum to feature permanent displays of Western art is nearby as well. The eclectic collection of the museum is chiefly, but not exclusively made up of French artwork.
