Rapa is the southernmost inhabited island of French Polynesia and has a central bay protected by a surrounding ring of mountains. The island is home to two villages: Ahurei and 'Area. Ahurei is the larger of the two and contains 28 ridgetop fortresses such as Morunga Uta.
