Ras al Khaimah is one of the emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. The city is split in two by a creek and has two sections. There are several festivals held every year in the city, including a yearly half marathon, a cultural festival held in the desert called Awafi Festival and Terry Fox Run. Because the city has been occupied for several millennia, there are many historical sites throughout the emirate. Those interested in the history of the area can visit mosques, museums, forts, palaces and the old city.
