Located midway between the larger islands of Sumba and Timor in the Indonesian archipelago, Savu was visited in passing by Captain Cook and the explorers of the 18th century, and retains much of its unique cultural heritage. Quiet beaches and beautiful reef systems surround the island, with the interior composed primarily of grassland dotted with palm trees. Almost all of the island's rainfall occurs in the monsoon season, between November and March, with the rest of the year being still and dry.
